Week 4 – “Mixed Media Master”

It is the final day of this week’s Mixed Media program and we’ve had an extremely productive and fun week with guest artist, Tamar Makhan.  The children have been painting self portraits that were influenced by the portraits of Spanish artist, Frida Kahlo and African-American artist, William Johnson by using materials such as oil pastel and chalk.  They have also created sculptural self-portraits using objects found in the studio and natural objects collected in the park which have been influenced by traditional African sculptures and artist Banimir Misic; wearable art created by drawing onto heavy paper that were constructed into vests and hats and inspired by Japanese fashion designer, Issey Miyake; and created ceiling mobiles with painted modelling materials inspired by Native American artist, Aneurythm.

Here are a few photos of the children’s interpretations of themselves – look at how beautiful they all are!

Stay tuned next week as it is Week 5 – “Let’s Sculpt” when the children will learn to shape, form and mold using clay, plaster and model magic to create a variety of 3D sculptures.
