Red Slam Collective & Art City Making Art

Yesterday was the first day of Da Jump Off with Red Slam Collective.  The project fosters a sense of collective healthy self-expression, sense of identity and cultural exchange for children and youth from diverse communities; through the medicine wheel teachings.

Using their own words and experiences, the children  will explore the collective story creation in the 4 Directions of the Medicine Wheel through four urban art mediums: Graffiti Writing, B-boying, Beat Making, and MC’ing. The four stories produced through the four mediums will then be interwoven into a final showcase for friends, family and community members at Daniels Spectrum in Regent Park. Every session begins with the Sharing Circle and honoring the 4 Directions, and smudging with one of the four sacred medicines.

Over the five-month period from October 2nd 2013 to December 4th 2013 inclusive, the Red Slam Collective will come to the studio and conduct a weekly workshop.

This project is  funded by the  Community Projects Grant from the Toronto Arts Council
