After our successful Home Sweet Home Spring program, Art City has started work on our summer theme: Fairytales and Fables. Running from July 4th to August 31st, this program will teach students aged 6-9 years about historical fairy tales and the origins of famous fables.
Where does the timeless Jack and the Beanstalk come from, or the classic phrase “the sky is falling” originate? Students will be asked to share their favourite stories and those unique to their culture. Students will also learn about contemporary Canadian authors, including Robert Munch, Brenda Clark and Jean Little and the important role they play within Canadian Literature.
Children will use poetry and literary arts to write a fairy tale of their own. This will be complemented by illustrations done in watercolour and ink. Students will also learn about visual literacy and how to use symbolism to create narratives within their drawing and paintings.
We’re very excited about Fairytales and Fables, and look forward to sharing pictures of our work with you! To look at pictures of our artwork from Home Sweet Home, check out our Facebook album here.
